In Memoriam

The Mark A. Richardson Deanship Endowment was created to celebrate the life and far-reaching professional contributions of Dr. Richardson, who served as dean of the OHSU School of Medicine from 2006 until his untimely death in September 2016.

Under Dr. Richardson’s leadership, the school excelled in its mission to prepare new generations of physicians and scientists to heal, discover and serve, and expanded its reputation as one of the top primary care education programs in the country. As dean, Dr. Richardson guided the establishment and growth of the Knight Cancer Institute, the Knight Cardiovascular Institute and the Bob and Charlee Moore Institute for Nutrition & Wellness, among other new entities in the school. Most recently, the school launched a new M.D. curriculum lauded by the American Medical Association as transformative in preparing future physicians to lead and thrive in the rapidly changing health care landscape.

Prior to serving as school of medicine dean, Dr. Richardson chaired the OHSU Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. He came to OHSU after many years serving in faculty and leadership roles at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Washington.
